Large Scarab Bettle (We only have two of these) The Egyptian dung beetle encapsulates its eggs in camel dung in order to keep them warm. The beetle must roll the little ball of dung constantly in order to maintain a constant temperature. The Egyptians identified the ball of dung with the Sun, and believed that it was moved around the earth by a giant dung beetle. This insect was so revered, that many of the pharaohs had their wax seals engraved on the bottom of ceramic dung beetles. The
preferred method of extracting essential oils is steam
distillation. 
Several hundred pounds of plant material is collected into huge
specialized
stainless steel pressure cookers where the oil is separated
from
the plant.  As it is allowed to cool, the steam turns into water,
and the oil (being lighter than water) can easily be skimmed off the
top.

It
takes an enormous amount of plant material to produce a small amount of
essential
oil. For example, 2,000 pounds of rose petals are needed to produce
1 ounce of the precious (and very expensive) rose oil.

The
amount and quality of the essential oil to be extracted depends
largely on growing conditions of the plant: exposure to sunlight, rich
soil, altitude and air quality play a large role in the end
result. 
The time between harvesting and processing is so important that many
manufacturers
distill the oil at the growing site.

We
are proud to offer these pure essential oils. These are 100% pure and
undiluted,
they are free of chemicals and additives.  Pure Essential oils
are soluble in lipids, which means that they can easily penetrate the
skin. 
For this reason dilution with a carrier oil (such as Apricot Kernel
oil)
is required before applying to the skin.  We recommend a dilution
of 5:1 in favor of the carrier oil.  That is to say, that one
pound
of our pure essential oils will yield five pounds; one ounce will yield
five ounces, and so on.  We believe that our oils are the finest
quality
and best value available anywhere.

Absolutes
are often confused with essential oils.  Absolutes are not
pure essential oils but are rare fragrances from plants that do not
create
enough essential oil to collect. In many cases, several hundred or
thousands
of pounds of plant material is required to extract one pound of pure
essential
oil. For example, 5,000 pounds of rose petals are required to produce
one
pound of rose absolute.

To
make an absolute flower petals are dehydrated to remove the
water
and to create a concentrate called a concrete. This dense material is
then
washed in an alcohol solvent which takes on the fragrance. The alcohol
is distilled off and the remaining product is the absolute.
This
is a pure plant fragrance and retains certain therapeutic properties
but
is not an essential oil.

Thankfully,
absolutes
go a very long way, and must be used sparingly.


 

We offer very nice black ceramic
oil infusers. Put a couple of teaspoons of water with a drop or two of
your
favorite oil, light the candle, and enjoy several hours of
aroma-therapeutic
enjoyment.  Unlike cheaper infusers, these have a huge well and if
filled can last many hours. Black.

This is a wonderful, smoke-free
alternative to burning incense. You put a few drops of your favorite
essence
into the ring, then simply place the ring over a lightbulb. As the heat
from the lamp is distributed to the brass ring, the essence is spread
throught
the room. Just a few drops will fragrance an entire room for hours:
without
smoke!
